Spadout is on the prowl for creative gearheads who know how to write. We have several openings for experienced writers with solid technical knowledge in one or more outdoor-related sports we cater to.
This is a potential long-term opportunity to get paid for writing about your passion for sports-adventures and the associated gear. We want to build a strong and long-lasting team that cares about developing and contributing to the outdoor community as much as we do. The goal is: top quality gear content. All articles focus on gear, but this is your chance to spice it up with a narrative twist.
You can expect:
- Tons of creative freedom for original (read: previously unpublished) article ideas
- Reliable and competitive pay:
- Flat rate of $100 per accepted article
- Interactive process between writer and editor
- To write 1-3 articles per month
- Articles will run at 600-800 words
You should have:
- Three or more clips to submit for consideration
- Up-to-date professional resume and/or portfolio
- If you have an outdoor resume, please submit that as well
- Been published in a known outdoor-related publication (either print or online)
- Several years of active experience in the sport(s) you want to write about
A few examples of what we are looking for:
- How technology / gear advancements shape our sport
- History / evolution of gear and the inventors who developed what we have today
- Why [gear] is going to change the sport (or not)
- Secrets to the trade
- Comparing techniques, technologies, etc.
- >>>Think 2 parts of "Popular Mechanics" with 1 part of "Backcountry Magazine"
And a few examples of what we are definitely NOT looking for:
- My trip to somewhere / generic trip report
- I love [X] (one piece of gear)
- How a sport makes me feel
- Travel brochure
- Poor grammar, spelling & punctuation
