Comparing the Inline Figure Eight and Figure Eight on a Bight. Notice how similar the two knots are, except the Figure Eight on a Bight has both strands coming out from the left end of the knot, while the Inline Figure Eight has one strand coming out from either side of the knot.

Note: Inline Figure Eight knot is only good for one direction of pull. So it is important to tie the Inline Figure Eight anticipating the direction of pull. For the above knot, the correct direction of pull would be from the right. If the above Inline Figure Eight is pulled from the left, it will invert; then if both strands of the rope is pulled, the knot can come undone. If you need a knot to handle a multi-directional load, an Alpine Butterfly knot is recommended over an Inline Figure Eight.
