Garda Hitch

The Garda Hitch is unique in the aspect that it will only allow rope to go one direction through it. It is very usefull in rescue techniques. Although it isn't as efficient as a Petzl Traxion, it takes standard gear that you would probably bring up with you anyways.

1. First get two identical oval biners, and align them in such a way that their gates are facing the same direction.

2. Clip the rope through the two biners.

3. Keep in mind that the Garda Hitch only allows rope to move one direction, and make a small loop of rope on the side that you want pull rope through the hitch on.

4. The loop is going to clip through the opposite biner.

5. Clip the loop of rope through the opposite biner.

6. Finished

The red arrow below indicates the direction the Garda Hitch is to be loaded, it will resist letting out rope in this direction. The black arrows indicate how the rope flows through the hitch.
