CaveA cave is a natural cavity in the ground, that may or may not be filled with water, big enough for a person to enter (sometimes they may require excavation) that is more then eight feet deep or long (this is what is required to put a cave on the map). Some people stipulate that a cave must be big enough so that there is one place in it that doesn't ever recieve direct light, but in common usage of the word, it applies to smaller spaces like rock shelters or cliff cavities.
