Selecting a Climbing HarnessMost climbers will want a sport harness. This provides the basics and is reasonably comfortable. Advanced harnesses are available if you need to carry additional gear (big wall harness) or if you need an ultralight setup (alpine harness). You should consider:
- Comfort versus weight (Sport v. Alpine)
- The length of time you will be hanging on your harness (Big Wall v. Sport)
- The amount of gear to be attached to the harness to determine the number of haul loops needed
