2009-11-10 | Marzocchi Dirt Jumper 1 by facebookuser Good: I fount these forks to be pretty damb strong, I sluged a landing face hard and they just kept on workin.... unlike my nose. Not the longest travel with about 4" but their light enough not to notice any major nose dive tendancies. I love em and wouldnt swap em! Bad: My disc brake wont fit it properly and I find they tend to adjust them selfs occasionly... but im sure that this is only my beef and not the forks. Alternatives: Rockshox PIKE 426 Coil U-turn would work well, |

2009-11-08 | Shimano Saint Sl-M810 Shifter by dogonfr Good: Have to laugh LoL the cable adjusting knob is gold. Riding this on my HT 1X9 DH/FR/AM bike with a CroMo frame 6" fork. My Dh bike has the XT Dual Control shifter and it feels much better than the Saint. Saint seems to need some breaking in with the thumb down shifter being very stiff. It takes allot of effort which means your thinking of the shift and missing the trail ahead. Time will tell but out of the box XT is awesome. Bad: Very stiff on the down shifts. Alternatives: XT Dual Control |

2009-10-28 | Fox DHX Air 5.0 by facebookuser Good: Great shock with lots of adjustment to get it dialed in just right if you follow directions. Light weight and smooth as butter. Bad: CAN BE EXPENSIVE. Alternatives: NOTHING ELSE I'VE USED QUITE MEASURES UP TO THIS SHOCK. |

2009-10-25 | Shimano SL-M770 Deore Xt Rapidfire Shifters by dogonfr Good: Excellent shifter allowing one finger braking while shifting up or down at the same time if needed. Their are 2 options for mounting so you can install on either side of the brake master cylinder for that custom setup. Shifting is clean and crisp even when going 3 gears up in one push. Down shifting is one gear at a time and can be clicked off really quick with no skipping across the cog gears, great for DH. |

2009-10-03 | Club Roost Cross Terra by periwinklekog Good: (Size tested: 26 x 1.5)
Good entry-level cross tire for ATB's; Reasonable overall durability for the price; good grip in cornering, relatively stable in mud. Good training tire. Bad: Center ridge is smooth and wears down faster on courses with lots of gravel and paved sections; a little heavier than other similar tires of its size. Alternatives: When the budget allows, consider upgrading to the Schwalbe CX Pro Sport (26 x 1.35) for racing and save the Club Roost for training. |

2009-09-30 | Park Tool PFP-3 Floor Pump by barubin Good: It feels like a really sturdy piece of equipment. The barrel is long enough to make filling a tire a quick effort. The schrader and presta valves are like two separate barrels on a gun so you don't have to change any small pieces when going from one to the other. Bad: It has happened to me 3 times, hear it, 3 TIMES: When I am finished pumping my tires, the end of the pump is so hard to get off the valve that if pulled too hard, you'll get a nice tear in your tube. The solution to this is a nice easy coaxing by twisting and gradual pulls. This doesn't make for very time-efficient repairs. The internal connector mechanism could've had a much better, easier-to-remove design.

2009-09-18 | KMC Z510hx Rainbow 1/8 Chain by roscoegordo Good: It's pretty great on price, (I payed $10 on ebay), and it's also nice that it has so many colors. Bad: For the price, I'm sure it won't perform well for too long...but hey, it's my first time so I guess I'll just have to try it out!

2009-09-07 | Primal Wear Army Jersey by chmell3 Good: Primal Wear makes some of the best gear on the market. There's nothing that compares. The 3/4 zip is standard on every jersey, and each is made of the best quality materials to wick sweat away from a cyclist's body. Alternatives: Anything Primal Wear is a good buy. |

2009-09-05 | Sidi Dominator 5 - Women's by lauratroll Good: Sidi makes excellent quality shoes and these are no different. The ratcheting buckle was well worth the extra money. These shoes are perfect for narrow feet. |

2009-09-01 | White Lightning Clean Ride Lube by barubin Good: This lube is pretty awesome. It doesn't collect dirt like the wet lubes. It seems to be a mixture of alcohol (or some other quick-drying solvent) and possibly a powdered wax. It goes on wet and then dries. My chain is MUCH less dirtier than when I had used a wet lube. This seems like a plus in that it may prolong the life of the chain/cassette/cog on account of wear and tear. I really like that fact that my chain is less dirty than with wet lube. Bad: The only problem I've seen is not a performance issue. Rather, I can't tell how lubed the chain is. I find myself lubing the chain maybe once every week-and-a-half to two weeks just to be sure that the chain is well-greased. So far no real problems.

2009-08-24 | Cat Eye Vectra Wireless by UltraApple Good: This is a very easy to install basic bike computer. Has current speed and distance which is generally all I use. It seems to be pretty accurate speed wise. Mounts to your handle bar or Handlebar Stem. I Really like the Handlebar stem mount as it leaves room on the bars or other stuff like lights. Bad: I really wish it had a stop watch. Its easy enough to use a watch or something else but it really would have been nice to include that simple feature.

2009-08-22 | Nikwax Cleaning Gel by elleasinswell Good: Does the job OK. Good, clear directions. Mild to even colored leathers. Bad: Applicator feels temperamental, doesn't always seem to flow evenly. Seems overpriced for a mild cleaner (someone else should chime in here on how it's panned out on their Gore-tex footwear) and the scrubbing tip doesn't seem like it would hold up as long as the bottle (I ended up using a separate brush). Alternatives: Diluted Woolite or other mild detergent and a soft scrub-brush. |

2009-08-18 | Cane Creek Thudbuster Seatpost ST by ErikW Good: Phenomenal product. I bought the Thudbuster ST because a herniated disc was making road riding a serious pain. The suspension excels at eating up cracks, uneven rough pavement and the general buzz of riding on pavement at all. Very smooth engagement and rebound. I'm really impressed with the pivoting design as it doesn't reduce your seat height when it compresses, instead just effectively rotating your seat backwards a bit relative to the bottom bracket. Bad: It is heavier, so be aware of that. But do the full calculations of what percent the added weight is relative to you+bike... 0.2% for me... a happy back is definitely worth a 0.2% increase in weight.

2009-08-05 | Soma Double Cross Frame by ErikW Good: Of all my bikes, this is the cheapest and heaviest, but it is by far my favorite. The bike rides like a dream, very forgiving (due to the terrific nature of steel) and very predictable. I've raced this bike on the road, on hill climbs, a full cyclocross season, I've taken it to Europe multiple times, sometimes with panniers sometimes without. Right now it's my commuter with full racks and fenders. love it. I really like the longer headtube... very comfortable. Higher quality steel compared to Surly. Also less well known. Get it with the steel fork and you'll have a classic carver. Mine is getting sent to get S&S couplers this winter. Bad: None.

2009-07-19 | Shimano ALTUS by mikesbike Good: It is on my daughters 2002 Giant Boulder SE which she road hard for about six years and then it sat outside for the next two years (in N.H. not covered) cleaned the chain up and tried to run it through the gears and it worked fine and she riding it harded than before. Bad: black and tought to tell when it needs to be cleaned. Alternatives: N/A |

2009-07-17 | Continental Race King Tire by gdpool Good: so far so good. These tires seem lighter than their claimed weight. I can run these at a lower pressure than my last tires (bontrager xdx). Bad: Apparently, the 29" tire doesn't come in the 'Supersonic' Black Chili option. I dont' know if that matters. Alternatives: Add a little extra Stans when putting these on tubeless. They were full of pin-hole leaks. |
