| Review by climbhigher Oct. 30, 2007 | | Good: These powder twins are awesome; they are built for riding in the deep. The side cut is nice and allows for big turns I found. The flex of the ski is designed well for big mountain riders. The skis seem to have a good take off pop from the big hits. The flex pattern is good for landings straight or switch. The ski is built solid and is a good contender in the big mountain scene. Bad: If you are planning on taking these skis into the groomers I wouldn't recommend them as their performance quickly diminishes. Alternatives: You can Look into the K2 Seth, Rossignol Scratch BC WRS other options to check out. | Read 14 Reviews | Add a Review | Read 13 Retailer DescriptionsFrom Evogear:Volkl Gotama Skis 2011: The Dalai Lama himself couldnt ask for a better big mountain ski. The 2009 - 2010 Volkl Gotama Skis are one of the best new skis for the 2010 ski season. With an upgraded design the 2010 Volkl Gotama skis not only have a 106mm waist but they also now have an ELP (Rocker) Design giving one of the most versatile skis that Volkl has ever made even more versatile. Changing such an iconic ski could only be done if we improved it. The new Volkl Gotama ski features an all new shape of 137-106-122mm. The powder and switch-riding performance is incredible, and yet skiers who want to use it as an everyday ski will be able to do so. Leave it to Volkl to introduce what just a few years ago would have been inconceivable: a rockered, big mountain twin tip that you can use everyday at the resort. The new Volkl Gotama is one of those skis that we got onto this spring and never gave the skis back until the season was over. If you like a ski that will go anywhere and in any conditions the new Volkl Gotama Ski is a quiver of one.
Extended Low Profile - Volkl Rocker Design: The new Gotama is a prime example of the versatility of ELP, with its amazing combination of flotation and all-mountain versatility. The Volkl Gotama features three flex zones; the front of the ski is stiff - since the rocker design is pre-flexed, added stiffness in front provides stability. The flex in the mid-body of the ski is medium, providing a transition to the softer tail, which allows ease of turning on the groomed, and maneuverability in powder.
From Hermits Hut:
When Volkl completely redesigned the Gotama, skiers around the world felt the shockwave for days. Luckily, the result is a ski worthy of the name. From Platonically smooth groomed runs and the deepest of powder dreams to the nerve-wracking hell of chopped, sun-baked and refrozen crud, the 2010 Gotama utilizes Volkls flex-tuned ELP profile to provide unmatched versatility and unshakeable confidence in variable conditions. Where the old Goat was merely great, the new one is on another level of performance and intuitive handling. Volkl Gotama Flat Skis Features: Elongated Low-Profile rocker design enhances maneuverability and float in powder while retaining consistent edge contact for hardpack conditionsSensorwood core with carbon Powerbox reinforcement for resilient, lightweight damping and powerful edge hold.3 tuned flex zones: stiff nose for stability, medium midsection transitioning to softer tail for forgiveness and powder performance.Low tip shape prevents hooking on hard snow and crud without losing float. The 2010 Volkl Gotama Flat Skis can't be beat in the powder or on the runs. From Kittery Trading Post:
