tube style belay devices don't twist ropes
doesn't work well with large calibre ropes, especially when wet.
i've tried this with a wet 11mm rope, and was not happy about how hard it was to lower a climber
cheap, works fine for craging on med-large ropes 9.5-10.5. Simple to use, no unneeded gizmos and gadgets, lasts a long time.
Excellent option if you dont need to be autoblocking a second, and use average sized cords.
No teeth for small diameter ropes, no autoblock options.
You can rotate the tube for higher or lower friction. Lower friction=big end on top, Higher friction=small end on top.
light wight and last forever, mines 20+ years old and my dad gave it to me, and it still works like the day he got it
locks down on rope when trying to feed slack
Great general ATC device. My primary belay/rappel unit.
Stupid when you need them and gyms make you rent them.
