XT has always been top notch in my books; now with the XT V-brakes they are decent. They do what they are intended to do but I find that for a product that is suppose to be so high end they are really not. They will stop you bottom line and they are light weight.
The original break pads had an awful screeching noise. I know sometimes this is due to how the pads are adjusted but no matter what I tried to do it was to no avail. The pads were replaced and this seems to have alleviated the issue.
There are many different V brake models out on the market you should check out the Avid Single Digit SL Brake for another model that comes with good words about them.
