I am always amazed at how long these things burn for. 3 AAA batteries lasts forever it seems like. I have gotten to the point where I almost feel like a wuss for bringing extra batteries when I know I will only be gone for the weekend. The design such that it gives you just the right amount of spread on the light up to about 15 feet. My wife and I tie them off to the top of the tent and will read for hours or play poker till the wee hours without worry.
I like the zip style strap. it allows you to strap it to you hand or head and not have to fold it up for storage. It is also LLLLIIIGGGGHHTTTTT. That's important. Three setting mainly allow you to adjust to not hurt the eyes of your campmates. I have yet to burn out the batteries on any setting over the course of a weekend.
I do wish they made a waterproof version

Very light. Bright. Long battery life. Durable. Very water resistant. No wires to short out over time. The button is easy to push even with gloves on. Easy to find batteries. You can use lithiums (be careful, you can't use them on many of Petzl's lamps) to save more weight and get better battery life--especially in cold weather. Strap is very comfortable even though it doesn't look like it. It also will go on any helmet (even if it doesn't have headlamp tabs). It easily adjusts to any size head, arm, leg, pole, tent strap, you name it--and you don't have to adjust anything.
As others have mentioned, the strap will get stuck in your hair if you try to remove with one hand.

It does not adjust up and down.

Functional! We use this thing to grill at home and on the trail. Super bright. We don't even use lanterns now.
Can't take it off one handed, either your hair will get caught or your fingers will get smacked, it's a small price for hands free light.

Got this for christmas last year and I absolutely love it. Took it on a recent trip with the wife up Mt Whitney and it is so super convenient because of the way it can fit around anything. Only put 4 stars cause this is my first headlamp.

Extremely small and will fit in any pocket. Light weight. Great emergency light.
It is overpriced. If you don't mind having a strap you can save 10 bucks.
Petzl Tikka Pro (same light with strap)

Good headlamp for when your unlikely to need one but if you do it's a necessity. Fit's in any pocket.

definitely compact. bright as hell too. button is easily pushed even with thick gloves.
kinda need 2 hands to remove from head. otherwise hair gets caught in it. also, can't swivel to aim beam up or down.
in spite of the negatives, it's worth the price (and this is coming from an unemployed student)
