Could be nice for long rappels to add another friction point.
When this first came out people were saying that this device is going to be great for belaying?! Don't belay me with one of these please. How are you planning on feeding slack (or taking slack in) fast enough while I am clipping? You could obviously use it as a normal carabiner but that defeats the point of carrying a heavy 38 dollar carabiner.
Great for use in rescue belays when 2 people are on the line, extra friction that is provided helps control descent and provides less stress on the belay device.
Do not use solely as a rappel/belay device unless it is an emergency, it does not have enough friction to stop a fall.
Makes lowering and rappeling with the GriGri smoother than any ATC I have ever used. Light people are a breeze to. It should come with the GriGri. It is also very pretty.
Heavy, but you are belaying with a GriGri! If you care about the weight added by the spur then what are you doing with the GriGri?

Clip a wiregate to your belay loop and use that instead of the spur. Not as nice though.
