| Review by livextreme41 Jun. 15, 2009 | | Good: my favorite alpine tool. I have not used another more versatile tool. The shaft has adequate clearance for steep ice, but the straight shaft for plunging into snow is a nice relief amongst tools with a savage bend to them. It's a classic design that i still find useful. With a deep plunge in good snow, i will supplement an anchor with the oversized clip point in the head. Included leash is nice, wish more companies did this. This is my wife's preferred choice when she climbs with me. Bad: not the best at anything, not the worst at anything. It's a solid tool, i have no complaints Alternatives: the closest to this would be the old Black Diamond shrike or the Black Diamond Venom, the venom has a similar design, with a longer shaft, and length options, it also has the Option for a more classic pick design for self arrest if you're wanting an aggressive mountaineering axe. | Read 9 Reviews | Add a Review | | Shaft Material | Aluminum | | Shaft Rating | N/A | | Weight (g) | 590 | | Head Material | Steel | More Info |

Cred: 1390 | Review by Keese on Dec. 19, 2007 | An old axe but still favored in all sorts of conditions of vertical water ice too mountaineering. The straight shaft is great for mountaineering while the curved head and all make it a classic ice tool. |
 | Not a dedicated sicky waterice tool, for sure. |
