Cred: 2509 | | Great for use with anchors and belay devices (the rounded shape minimizes friction). For sport, I keep one for anchors, one for my belay device, and the other as a utility locker with my rescue setup. The round surface is perfect for the petzl tibloc. Smooth and easy manipulation as well as easy to feed rope through whether a belay device or munter hitch. |
| This is pretty heavy, and for the weight, i prefer a bigger utility biner on longer climbs. The gate opening is a little small |
| If you want a big one for the same weight and half the price, get a BD rocklock. |

|
Cred: 316 | | Strength. Can be used to belay with, either with an accompanying belay device, or using a munter hitch. Key lock gate reduces snagging. |
| Sometimes the thickness of these biners is a hindrance (at anchors). |
|
Cred: 308 | | Nice wide rope-bearing surface. The red line that tells you when it is unlocked is also a nice, quick way to check, even if you are not quite close enough to do a touch test. I got these free from a buddy who works at a hardware store, so I guess they are popular enough to be used by non-climbers. |

Cred: 1306 | | Review by MikePB on Feb. 27, 2011 | | Great for belaying. Has Red/Dead markings. Smooth gate and screw. Right size. Good rope bearing area. |
|
Cred: 238 | | smaller and lighter than a regular pearbiner, but still useful for munter hitch b/c of larger head shape; action on the locking mechanism is really smooth |
|
Cred: 233 | | Very smooth action and finish. The shape beautifully accommodates clove hitches. |
| None in terms of HMS. The OP Jake is also good but heavier. |
|
Cred: 5 | | Review by rickyM on Mar. 27, 2011 | | very easy to use. Red open gate level very useful. Good shape for belay bina |
| scratches/ gold cover disappears after a few belays.
If used for large groups, the screw gate drops off the silver bar (after hundreds of opens and closes) |
| Beware of fake copies of this product. Only buy from trusted Petzl suppliers |
