Make it a lot easier going downhill. Also helps take some weight off legs as you use your arms. Collapsible/adjustable for going up or down hills, or setting up a tarp. 2 part poles seem to be lighter and sturdier than 3 part models.

Only 2 parts, so don't collapse as small as 3 part poles.
