I've used these as approach shoes while climbing and for multi day backpacking trips. They are as you expect waterproof and my feet have stayed dry through many a mud/marsh trek. They have even kept my food dry after brief submersions. At the same time they breath as well as any hiking boot I've ever worn, which is very important to me as my feet can get very warm and sweaty. These shoes have cut the number of socks I bring on a backpacking trip in half.
There is a somewhat strange balance point toward the back of the heal of the shoe. It can feel a little bit like you are on a teeter totter. This doesn't bother me at all but could bother some I suppose. Also these are low shoes so not good for hikers with a history of ankle problems.

The heel support is excellent. Fantastic in up hill climbing and for long distance walking, extremely comfortable.
Dislikes are the gortex feature seeing as how the shoe has a low ankle cut water will get in and stay in. Better to opt for a normal shoe better breath abilility. Also with excessive use does wear and tear a little prematurely, not much.
