|Super warm high altitude boot with enough ankle flexibility to allow for solid French technique. Stiff enough for pitch after pitch of front pointing. Rockered sole, combined with just a hint of flex, make these a better boot for mountaineering routes with more moderate terrain as compared to the Spantik. The flip side is that they aren't as good on super technical ground. That said, I've climbed WI5+, and M5 in these (where my limit in single leathers is about the same for ice and around M7 for mixed, so I'd say the Nuptse's do pretty good). Use a square knot at the ankle to fine tune the laces for approaches... makes a world of difference.|
|I had some of the early ones and the rubber rand over the cap of the toe started getting hairline splits pretty early on. Nothing that went through the shell, just the out rand. It wasn't a big deal, not enough for me to swap out broken-in boots. I think Sportiva has fixed this issue.|
