Good Features This is one of the best all mountain skis out there. It has a nice easy flex that doesn't build up too much power, but makes it easy to ski all day long. Its fairly stable at speed on the groomers, I noticed a little vibration on its top end, but not much. This ski is custom built for someone that likes to smear down the mountian at a good clip. Bad Features At 78mm its not really as wide as some of its competitors. I had a couple qualms about it's edge hold. It does reasonably well on the hardpack, but the bar for edge hold on a wide ski is being set almost impossibly high now. Some might find the ski to soft, its not capable of building up the kind of power that Volkl's AC40 or Fischer's AMC 79 are. Recommended Alternatives If you want to go for something with more power and edge hold go with either the Volkl AC40 or Fischer's AMC 79. If you need something wider, but you like the way the Recon feels, go with K2's Apache Outlaw, its just a wider version of the Recon. |

Titan Metal Laminate Technology Titan Metal Laminate is a visible extension of the standard metal laminate. As skis get wider, especially in the shovel, a metal laminate can begin to feel overwhelming. Titan Technology achieves overall swing weight reduction by removing material from the top layer of titinal in the tip and tail. Reduced swing weight offers a skier more control, with less fatigue. MOD Technology Praised by magazine tests and validated by skiers around the world, MOD Technology has proven to be the ultimate in ski design today. MOD combines an elastometric secondary core that works as a high-performance suspension system and mass damper to provide the highest degree of ease, power, forgiveness and performance available in skis today. The amount, application and distribution of mass are the keys to the success of MOD Technology. At K2, unlike any other manufacturer, our application of mass via the MOD structure does not affect flex, allowing the ski to perform freely while MOD absorbs unwanted vibrations independently. MOD Monic Fully integrated within the MOD structure, MOD Monic is an extension of MOD technology, focusing the benefits of mass dampening into a concentrated area. The entire surface of a ski benefits from the MOD structure, but some areas need it more than others. Independent studies at Boeing Laboratories determined precisely where to place the Monic by finding the area of the ski that would benefit the most from additional mass. By targeting a specific area, we aren`t needlessly adding weight. Monic allows for the majority of the MOD structure to be lightened, and have the extra mass focused precisely where it increase performance. M1 Binding System The K2/Marker M1 Ski-Binding System sets the standard for performance and integrated industrial design. Central to the design are the M1 titanium hubs that are imbedded into the core of the ski and enveloped in light weight composite housing. These fixed hubs allow for more balanced and centered points underfoot. By using fewer moving parts than conventional bindings, the M1 System allows for quicker, more efficient power transfer to your edges. Additionally, the design of the M1 toe and heel spacers are up to 30% wider than other rail systems thus extending binding contact points closer to the edge of the ski. This aspect increases leverage and power transfer. A fixed heel and floating toe drivers power down and forward while still allowing the ski to flex freely, in a more consistent round arc maximizing performance. State-of-the-art engineering and a sleek integrated design makes the K2 M1 a lighter, more powerful high performance system.
