Good Features
This is, perhaps, the best ski in this width. Most skis this width are going to be flat skis with inadequate dampening and non-existent edge hold. The titanium layer helps this guy hold an edge on the hardpack, and the mod monic system quiets it down at speed. This isn't a slalom ski, so don't expect to be riding on rails all the way down the hill, but it will hold an edge if asked.

Bad Features
The price is huge for a ski of this type, $1250 MSRP is allot to ask... but there aren't a whole lot of good technical system skis in this category.

From BobWards.com:
The Outlaw is the most versatile, highest performance ski built for adventurous experts seeking first tracks or skirting the rope in search of softer snow. An impressive 88mm waist width with a progressive sidecut gives it exceptional performance in powder. But it`s the Metal Laminate, M1 System and MOD Monic that keep the ski stable and quiet whether you are busting through crud or carving the groomers on your laps back to the lift.
FEATURES:
  • High Performance All-Mountain use
  • MOD Monic
  • MOD Technology
  • Progressive Sidecut
  • M1 Binding system
  • Titan Metal Laminate
Titan Metal Laminate Technology
Titan Metal Laminate is a visible extension of the standard metal laminate. As skis get wider, especially in the shovel, a metal laminate can begin to feel overwhelming. Titan Technology achieves overall swing weight reduction by removing material from the top layer of titinal in the tip and tail. Reduced swing weight offers a skier more control, with less fatigue.
MOD Technology
Praised by magazine tests and validated by skiers around the world, MOD Technology has proven to be the ultimate in ski design today. MOD combines an elastometric secondary core that works as a high-performance suspension system and mass damper to provide the highest degree of ease, power, forgiveness and performance available in skis today. The amount, application and distribution of mass are the keys to the success of MOD Technology. At K2, unlike any other manufacturer, our application of mass via the MOD structure does not affect flex, allowing the ski to perform freely while MOD absorbs unwanted vibrations independently.
MOD Monic
Fully integrated within the MOD structure, MOD Monic is an extension of MOD technology, focusing the benefits of mass dampening into a concentrated area. The entire surface of a ski benefits from the MOD structure, but some areas need it more than others. Independent studies at Boeing Laboratories determined precisely where to place the Monic by finding the area of the ski that would benefit the most from additional mass. By targeting a specific area, we aren`t needlessly adding weight. Monic allows for the majority of the MOD structure to be lightened, and have the extra mass focused precisely where it increase performance.
Progressive Sidecut
Progressive sidecut provides wider waist skis more versatility to be used in all conditions. Using Progressive Sidecut, K2 has found a way to combine these wider waisted skis, with more aggressive sidecuts. Standard sidecut theory is based on the belief that they were to have a completely radial arc that is to say if you followed the curve of the side of the ski the tip would match the tail. This works well on narrower waisted skis, but becomes overpowering on wider skis, especially in variable conditions. Progressive sidecut has different curve shapes along different parts of the ski. Starting at the tail, as you move up the length of the ski to the tip, sidecut progressively increases. What this results in is the confident, quick initiation we desire for hard snow performance at the tip of the ski through underfoot, but with a more forgiving, less aggressive turn shape from underfoot through the tail, allowing easier release in crud and powder. This ability to respect our history, while keeping an eye on the future, will ensure that KT½ traditions get passed on to future generations.
M1 Binding System
The K2/Marker M1 Ski-Binding System sets the standard for performance and integrated industrial design. Central to the design are the M1 titanium hubs that are imbedded into the core of the ski and enveloped in light weight composite housing. These fixed hubs allow for more balanced and centered points underfoot. By using fewer moving parts than conventional bindings, the M1 System allows for quicker, more efficient power transfer to your edges. Additionally, the design of the M1 toe and heel spacers are up to 30% wider than other rail systems thus extending binding contact points closer to the edge of the ski. This aspect increases leverage and power transfer. A fixed heel and floating toe drivers power down and forward while still allowing the ski to flex freely, in a more consistent round arc maximizing performance. State-of-the-art engineering and a sleek integrated design makes the K2 M1 a lighter, more powerful high performance system.

From Evogear:
K2 Apache Outlaw Skis 2009 – Redesigned for 2009 with a wider body, the Apache Outlaw Skis are still K2s most versatile all-mountain ski for any experts quiver. With its new Coomba inspired powder tip and overall increased width, the Apache Outlaw skis are better prepared to make tracks off piste in the pow. The Titanium Laminate Cap makes the K2 Apache Outlaw Skis powerful, durable and lightweight. Combined with the dampening Mon Tech system, the K2 Apache Outlaw Skis promise the smoothest ride when powering through crud. So whether its a day of crushing popcorn kernels or a day of floating through tracked pow, the K2 Apache Outlaw Skis will be your perfect companion.
  • Titan Metal Laminate Cap: Metal construction creates a damp and powerful ride. Two sheets of lightweight titanium alloy run the length of the ski, offering K2s most complex and highest performing constructions. The Titan metal laminate cap consists of alternating fiberglass and titanium above and below the wood core.
  • Powder Tip: Inspired by the Coomba, the Outlaw now plays better with the pow.
  • Mens specific Mod Monic: By embedding the solid 25 gram zinc mass into the Mens Apache series, test teams found skis had a smoother ride because vibrations were lessened.
  • Mod Tech: K2 shaped the secondary elastometric core to distribute mass along the ski in a way that gives the smoothest ride. Thickest at the center to insulate skiers from vibrations and thinned out towards the tip and tail to reduce weight and increase maneuverability.
  • Progressive Sidecut: 16/14 sidecut combined with the new wider body allows for better float in soft snow

From Altrec:
K2: Apache Outlaw Flat Skis - Refined with a larger waist and longer radius, the K2 Apache Outlaw has an innovative progressive sidecut design that optimizes release through broken crud and well-loved groomed runs. Traditional backcountry/all mountain skis use a wood core construction reinforced with metal, but K2 added a Titan metal construction that incorporates a perforated titanium sheet over a light and lively aspen and fir core. This makes the Apache Outlaw nimble and stable without making you feel like you're mired on the flat, heavy planks associated with some other powder ski manufacturers. If you sleep in on weekends and miss out on the miles of untouched powder, the Apache Outlaw is also ideal for ripping broken new snow and the chunks of soft crud left by the early birds and powder pigs. When mixing first tracks with established inbound runs, K2's Mod Technology dampens vibration and minimizes ski chatter at speed. K2 compares Mod Technology to shock absorbers in an off-road car--as an "elastomeric secondary core" (their term) the Mod Monic device improves the Apache Outlaw's contact with the snow and crud, so you are more apt to initiate turns exactly where you need to most. Unlike seasons past when we've paired this ski with Marker's K2 M1 12.0 binding, this particular Apache Outlaw will arrive flat, so you can choose the binding combination that best suits your skiing style and potential.
  • Exceptional expert-oriented freeride performance oriented toward all mountain use
  • Dimensions (tip/waist/tail): 124 /88/111 mm.
  • Intended for 70% untracked and 30% groomed terrain
  • Radius: 20 m. in 174-cm. length
  • Progressive sidecut design allows for easier turn release in crud and powder
  • K2 Titan metal laminate with Distinct perforated metal top sheet enhances stability while reducing swing weight
  • Triaxial braided construction includes titanium perforated laminate with a fir/aspen wood core
  • Mod Monic technology dampens vibration and reduces high-speed chatter
  • Specifically offered without binding (K2 recommends the K2/Marker Piston M1 14.0 or 12.0 bindings)
