Cred: 463 | | My back-country needs for cooking are simple (Backpacker's Pantry and coffee): I need an efficient stove that can boil water quickly. This stove is the best stove out there for what I do! |
| The igniter failed after the first use. It's a good thing I bought the maintenance kit, which comes with a sturdier igniter than the original. |
| For what I do - there is no alternative. The MSR Reactor is similar to this stove; it boils more water (good for larger groups), but I don't Think it has the coffee press accessory. |
Cred: 1073 | | I love this thing. It is so easy to set up and you can literally have boiling water in just a couple minutes. And it's nice how everything (even the fuel canister) fit right into the cup. |
| Sometimes the igniter doesn't work. Make sure you have matches. |
Cred: 815 | | Compact and quick to boil. Easy to fly with. Easy to start. |
| The piezo started will break at some point but easier to replace or just light with a match. Not for you if you are into that fancy gourmet cooking. Keep the fuel cannisters warm if it is cold. |
Cred: 614 | | Boils water very quickly. Easy to pack and carry. I use it mostly to make tea and hot chocolate in the morning/evening. Also good for dehydrated meals. |
| Not very versatile. Only boils two cups of water at a time. |
Cred: 578 | | For an old school canoe/camper this tough travel mug has a great second use. I fully enjoy this stable stove and drink cup especially in winter camp, I can be selfish! It stuffs in to my portage pack on my chest once breakfast and cocoa is finished |
| What to do with the burner when drinking hot cocoa on short snowshoe/ warm up walks? |
Cred: 1364 | | compact, efficient, easy to use. this is great for backpacking. it boils water really quickly and you can get separate accessories to cook larger stuff, but it loses some of its efficiency. the neoprene jacket keeps from burning yourself on the cup. its great for hot cocoa, instant coffee, or whenever you need hot water quick |
| ignitor broke after a while, but it can be fixed, and you should be carrying around a lighter or matches anyways |
Cred: 629 | | Easy to pack, easy to use.. you cant go wrong with this little guy. Awesome for soups, hot chocolate, easy mac.. etc.. Be careful when lighting this bad boy the first time. The knobb is very touchy. I turned it up way to high and hit the light button and WHOOOM a HUGE flame came out of the sides of the cup. SO BE CAREFUL... |
| Soto micro with GSI Pinnicle kit |
Cred: 820 | | I have the original PCS (black) and love it. Has been through many uses. Boils water fast! Within the 8 years or so that I have owned this stove, and hundreds of uses, I had to change the igniter once (cheap, easy to install replacement). It's all in one. |

Cred: 40569 | | Review by marks on Apr. 01, 2007 | | All in one, very efficient, very easy setup. 2min 42 second boil time. |
| Not the lightest setup on the market. |
Cred: 353 | | super fast boiling times;everything packs away inside the cup |
| watch it close cause it heats so fast that it will boil over in no time and melt the outer cozy and you will get your fingers burned tring to turn down the heat;found this out the first use |
Cred: 198 | | Looove this thing. When making hot coffee or quick meals this is the ballz. If you read up on The Freezer bag method you will never go back hot dogs, and hobo joes. |
| Its only good for boiling water. I tried cooking in it just after I got it and wow ive still got chared food stuck to the bottom. |
| push the frezer bag method nothing compares!! |
Cred: 163 | | So easy to use. Fast set up, fast boil, fuel efficient. Nuff said. (many accesories too) |
| Says its not good to cook in the cup, but i assume the pot you can get with it or instead of would work for that? I dont need this capability though anyways. Maybe a larger cup? |
| MSR's variation, twice as much capacity, but twice the cost. Probably better for families, or larger groups, though my Jetboil is generally used by me and up to 3-4 others, and its all weve needed. |
Cred: 248 | | I have two of these stoves and have had no problems with them. They do everything they claim to. |
| Throw away canisters. I still have trouble with this no refill policy and throwing them away. I also keep rebuild kits in both stoves. They are a pain when they go awry. ( I learned this from other stoves) |
| I use my nova (liquid fuel) for larger groups. |
Cred: 831 | | great for when you are by yourself, everything fits inside the cup |
| in the cold throw the fuel in the bottom of your sleeping bag so in the morning your stove will work alot better when you use it |
Cred: 476 | | Very compact and very fast. Best stove for one pot cooking ever! |
| Doesnt work well in the winter(probably because the canister fuel) |
Cred: 446 | | Boils water fast. Great when using with Mountain House packs. |
| Not a lot of volume, but you could buy the add on pot. |
Cred: 662 | | Compact and light! very awesome for lightweight backpacking trips on the Colorado trail and whatnot. Also extremely fast boiling rate and efficient with the gas. |
| doesnt work in the winter. |
Cred: 420 | | This thing is so awesome it's not even funny. It will literally boil water in 90 seconds. Super easy to use and pack |
| Sometime the lighter doesn't work but you should have matches with you anyways. |
Cred: 4460 | | Great packable unit. I use it climbing and skiing. Melts snow fast. |
| Needs modification to make work in cold altitude |
Cred: 368 | | fast and easy. Works great for simple foods. |
| can only boil. watch out when you let your friends try it out. Explain to them how to use it!! |
Cred: 255 | | Bulky, relatively heavy. Butane/Isobutane fuel is useless in weather below about 35 degrees. For cold weather & snow camping, find a white gas or propane stove. |
Cred: 150 | | all components fit into the main cup with no ruff parts that can cut stuff in your pack. Boils water fast!!! Very light wight |
Cred: 12 | | Extremely easy to use. I hate to admit it, but it does a good job of starting a fire when the wood's soaking wet (marks can testify to that). |
| You have to use the JetBoil fuel cells. |
Cred: 5 | | Very easy to use, no priming. Others have stated that you have to use the Jetboil canisters. This is untrue you can use SnowPeak or MSR canisters as well, but the Jetboil canisters will fit inside the pot. I like the all in one integrated setup. |
| Efficiency goes downhill as the temperatures drop. In cold weather the canister must be warmed (inside your jacket or sleeping bag) for a few minutes before the stove will light. |
| I have made the switch to alcohol stoves and am even working on plans for a wood burning stove. Lighter. |
Cred: 24 | | Review by ospray on Feb. 01, 2008 | | Compact, easy to use, all-in-one system, fast and good shield from the wind. |
| Not the lightest, Knocks over easily, hard to fix if broken, easy to burn your food. |
Cred: 22 | | Easy to light, boils water quickly, good for personal use or 2-3 people |
| bad at high altitude, doesn't work great to cook food in, just for boiling water |
Cred: 5 | | Great for general backpacking. No matches necessary is nice. |
| Weak for mountaineering. Didn't deal well with moderate wind / cold conditions. Flame was constantly going out causing us to lose gas. We dug a pit and everything. |
Cred: 326 | | Genius! Out of the box to boiled water in less than two minutes! |
Cred: 5 | | Review by Sperry on Mar. 19, 2011 | | Fast as hell boiling H2O, light and compact. An all in one solo kitchen. highly reccommended |
| Cup can get hot when drinking beverages. |
Cred: 5 | | Review by crummy on Aug. 11, 2011 | | worth every penny..i tried to live w/o for a while and i wish i would have bought it sooner |
| the large fuel containers dont fit inside |
Cred: 35 | | not so stable, tends to boil over if the lid's on at full power |
Cred: 14 | | Minimalistic: fuel cannister and components fit inside cup. Boils water in less than 2 minutes! |
Cred: 35 | | Review by asolo on Jun. 27, 2008 | | boils water in 2 minutes, what is bad about that? |
Cred: 8 | | compact and light. Quick to boil water |
| not made for real cooking- just boiling water |
Cred: 29 | | Doesn't work well using other companies fuels (MSR) |
Cred: 18 | | not reliable in colder temps or higher altitudes |
Cred: 25 | | too small, need to buy the bigger pan |
Cred: 2 | | use it to light your campfire |
 Cred: 64 | | Unstable without support. |
Cred: 22 | | Lightening fast and super easy to use |
