Cred: 16 | | I own the Grivel Air Tech SA (curved shaft model). The new spike style allows as 5cm more reach in piolet traction than the older Grivel spike style, so you get the same reach in a shorter (lighter) axe. It is very light, plunges easily and the one piece forged steel head is very durable. Perfect combination for ski mountaineering, classic alpine, and when you need a light weight axe for the descent route. |
| The spike was not pointy enough. I had to file a "notch" in the adze side so it would not glance off solid ice when using piolet canne on the downhill. Later models come with the same spike shape I filed. |
