Cred: 803 | | I purchased this as an upgrade to the original etrex Legend, which I still have. This unit carries the same durability and one handed operation of the other etrex models, but adds a color screen, altimeter and high sensitivity receiver or sirf as its called. living in the upper midwest, one issue that a lot of gps units face is poor reception under cover of trees and the like. This solves that remarkably well. I have used this unit additionally to track road travel and even for some minor road navigation while on trips. Aside from hiking and hunting use, my unit sees a lot of time in small boats for night fishing or hunting. Small enough to carry if you're going to strike out, but feature packed enough to get me back to a landing on an unfamiliar lake after dark. |
| It's spartan in many features compared to the ones people seem to use in their cars so often these days - I don't want to give the impression that its good for that, just a suitable option. |
| Any of the ETrex series are solid units. The key is to go with the features that matter to you. |
