A brilliant idea. The plastic shield does an excellent job of keeping the biner from rotating and crossloading while you belay. My favorite biner to use for belaying. The plastic shield also provides a nice secondary visual check to assure you're locked - the shield won't close unless the gate is locked
Heavy, can snag on things when swinging from your harness.
