Good Features This is a great probe. Stiff, very easy to assemble and marked with depth increments. The length isn't one of the more common ones these days (265 cm), but I think it's a very nice compromise between the more common 240 and 300 cm probes. Bad Features The over sized tubing does mean this probe takes up SLIGHTLY more room in your pack, but it also means it's nice and rigid when deployed... No wet noodle like some I've seen. Recommended Alternatives Its hard to recommend an alternative since the best probe will depend upon your anticipated conditions and your group's attitudes about avalanche response preparedness. I feel like I'm being a responsible ski partner if I carry a probe of at least 240 cm long (many carry much shorter, while many others insist on at least 300 cm)
In my case, anything shorter than 240 wouldn't save weight because my ski partner would make me trade for his longer and heavier probe (as would I if the tables were turned). |
