Good Features
An old style piece of gear seen much more in Europe than in the USA today. If you like the rapping with an 8 or prefer the belay of one more power to you. Defiantly something a climber should know how to use. Still a common sight in Spain and Germany though so maybe us Americans are missing something...

Figure 8s tend to twist the ropes (especially after rappels).
Recommended Alternatives
By far most climbers have changed to tube style belay devices. Black Diamond ATC will do the job nicer Almost every time.
