TOOL IS LIVE FOR CINGULAR, SPRINT, VERIZON, T-MOBILE.

Well this is already in the backend but we don't have enough cell phones to test it. So if you guys have a minute give it a shot.

This is designed to allow people who are currently in their local retail store to see how good that "sale" really is and make a decision about whether they sould buy now or wait and buy online.

UPDATE AGAIN

Send a txt msg to: p@spadout.com
In the body put: the product you want information

EXAMPLE: "black diamond atc guide"

This will reply: "Black Diamond ATC is avail for $21.95" in 90 seconds or less (our team of monkeys are good!).

You can also quary though this will only return the first 3 records (because txt msgs are limited to ~160 characters).

So "Black Diamond Ice Axe"

Would return "Narrow ur search: 1: Black Diamond Zero P Ice axe. 2: Black Diamond Arc Lite Ice Axe."

We will be using this technology to do all types of cool things so get ready...

ADVANCED COMMANDS (NEW)

Examples
1. "!8p black diamond atc" will give you the lowest 8 prices for "black diamond atc".
2. "!4p black diamond atc" will give you the lowest 4 prices for "black diamond atc". 1-9 works similarly.
3. "!ap black diamond atc" will give you all* prices for "black diamond atc". *capped at 15 prices so you don't get a hundred emails
4. If you receive a narrow request example: "Narrow ur search: 1:Petzl Vertex Vent. 2:Petzl Elios Vizion. 3:Petzl Meteor." you can reply the # that you want. So if you reply "2" you will receive price data for "Petzl Elios Vizion". You can also get complex and reply "!8p 2" and now you will receive the lowest 8 prices from "Petzl Elios Vizion".

how to txt msg email addresses

The easiest way is to add a new contact to your cell phone. Just add "Spadout" and scroll down to the "email" option. Enter p@spadout.com. Don't enter a cell phone #.

When you create a txt msg select "Spadout" from the contact list.

developers

any developers who know how to "hack" a line break into these txt msgs would greatly improve legibility. one beer for the answer to this question.

Does texting an email address cost the same as texting a phone number? I think sprint tries to log onto their "vision" network to send email. So then does this count as email?

If you don't know, I'm sure I can call and ask. I just hate calling those guys and waiting 6 years to get through. Cool feature though.

I don't know but I will figure out considering this will be a popular question. Did you try btw? We have reports that some of the cell phone companies are working smoothly yet but I have no data on Sprint.

I get no response from Sprint. It says it sent just fine, but I never got a response from p@spadout.com I typed "black diamond atc guide" as the message to try it.

yeah i have cingular as well and it said the message went through, but i never got a reply. i also talked to matt and theresa and i think they said the same thing about tmobile and verizon. looks like it depends on the company. this is a really great idea though mark, so be sure to post when it's working for all cell phone providers.

Thanks for your help w/ the txt msg stuff. I haven't updated the forums yet. I fixed a major issue and it looks like it will prob. work now. Use the original technique (directly txt msg p@spadout.com NOT 6245).

We have cingular and verizon working... so ur test would be very valuable.

Thanks,
Mark

Sprint is up and working.

Is it possible to put the top 3 low prices and who they're from? I prefer to order at certain stores sometimes and would like to see more than just the lowest price store. We're always asking for more aren't we :)

That's the entire point of Spadout (to do what the user wants for a change). Thanks for the test. There is a 160 character limit to txt msgs that we are messing with. We are bringing out a bunch of advanced commands so you can get all the data you want.

Well one major player to go.

WHO HAS T-MOBILE?

So the normal lookup is working for T-Mobile, just tested it out... but the narrowing function isn't working for both T-Mobile and Cingular.

The "!8p" command doesn't work for me. I get no message back. Also, the regular command seems to have stopped working as well.

Hey I got a reply (40 minutes later, Sprint problem?). When I use the !8p command, it says "Sorry, no matches for 8p black diamond atc guide" with the ! removed.
