Hello,
I thought of a potential service Spadout could offer. It's like Priceline.com for climbers. That is, it's collective bargaining. People could purchase various gear at no more than some agreed upon price. Then Spadout could organize those purchases together to negotiate a lower price from gear manufacturers or retailers.
What do you think?

 | Believe it or not this has been already discussed... we're just not sure how many people would participate in something like that.

Thanks for the post Eli. Your talking about if you want to buy multiple items at once right? The thing we don't want to do on Spadout is develop a system where ppl are obligated to buy etc. Can you give me an example purchase that you could foresee you using this system for?
Thanks!

 | that would be way cool.. like in the spring when everyone starts looking at the fuzzies on their rope with a little skepticism...

 | Check out eswarm.com, it's a new site with a service just like what you described. No climbing gear on their site yet but all it takes is for someone to post it.

I like the idea but my greatest difficulty envisioning this logic is the delay. Most people aren't willing to wait 4-5 weeks for a $10-500 product (that would be required to develop a large enough "group" together, find a significantly lower price, and wait for shipping). Or do you disagree?
