Actually I'd like to ask the camping gear guru about Tubbs Timberline snowshoes vs the competition. I live in MD, and my daughter and her family recently moved to VT. She and my grandson want snowshoes for Christmas. I know nothing about snowshoes, and I doubt my daughter knows much more. I want to get the best shoes for the best price. Any advice will be greatly appreciated.
Thank you in advance.

The Timberline is a great shoe for the price, but you'll want to make sure your grandson and daughter wear sturdy boot when they wear them. The basic binding doesn't disperse pressure like a higher end, more complicated design, so I'd discourage using a soft sorel style boot or Goretex trail runner.

The women's shoe is slightly narrower to accomodate a woman's narrower femoral distance. This would work for your grandson too, but he may appreciate the mens version.

You might also look at:

Atlas 925
$99.95 - 200.00

Atlas Elektra 9
$119.98 - 199.95

I prefer these because of the offset strap binding that keeps the shoe off the ground and a better pressure dispersion.
