My newley aquired Klein Mantra Race (New in the 1990's), came equiped with Shimano chain ring stating use shimano IG chain only and the cassette is shimano CS HG30 8I. The issue is rough clunk on shifting gears. The chain on it is KMC 8F XSP. Would the idea of using IG chain correct rough clunking shift problem? If so, what IG 40-50-to-70 would you suggest?

I would think it might be the entire drive train is worn. I would look at the rear cassette to see if it is in good condition or worn.

That matches my thought. Rear cassette and chain and then later work on front gears. I would like to poll you guys as to weather to upgrade the entire to higher gears with all new components. What would avid Klein collectors vote.
