what is the advantage/disadvantage of 29ers for mtn biking?

The 29 came about after the 650B with the same idea, a larger diameter wheel can clear trail obstacles with less rider effort. If you race a quarter against a fifty cent piece the 50 will take less rotation to gain greater distance. 29er also meant a taller bike which made for a great fit to tall riders but now they are going to a sloped top tube for better stand over to fit shorter riders also.
