Will this pulley handle an 8mm-diameter rope without jamming? I read elsewhere the Pro Traxion can jam an 8-mm rope.

It is rated (by Petzl) for ropes from 8-13mm so it can safely be used with a 8mm rope. I haven't personally tried it but I'd be surprised if you had problems with the device jamming except if you were taking wippers onto it (which I wouldn't recommend; nor would Petzl for that matter).

For hauling or ascending related activities where the load isn't falling you shouldn't have a problem.

Both are designed with the same rope sizes in mind (8-13mm). By jamming, do you mean locked onto the rope or locked open?

Really thin ropes will be inconsistent in the clamp. They could slip (which could damage your rope) or flip the cam inside out which will likely lock the cam closed. I haven't heard of any problems within petzl's reccomended range though.
