Dear Gear Guru

I am researching bicycle front hubs, wheels and tires for use on a 150 lb 3 wheeled vehicle of my own design. 2 bicycle wheels on the front, 1 go kart wheel on the rear, light weight 10 HP engine. This will be a solo vehicle and is somewhat of a novelty, mini-hot rod art project that should be car show quality when I finish. At least that is my concept.

Thinking about using a DH oriented hub and mounting the axle on one side only instead of mounting on both sides like intended on a bicycle fork. I also am considering having steel axles machined. I have had little luck at figuring out the exact configuration of some of these hubs. It seems that some have ridges on the axle that the inner races can bottom out on when tightened into the fork. Instead my thought is to use a hub that has an internal sleeve/spacer so that the axle can be slid to one side allowing more of the axle on that side for securing to the steering spindle that I make. I am not sure What the 20mm, 24mm or 25mm measurements refer to. Is that measurement the bearing ID or the OD of the axle that clamps into the fork? Would these measurements be exactly the same? I am also thinking of possibly securing the axle using a QR device "maybe".

Marzoccchi apparently has a 20mm axle with a slightly larger flange on one end and a cap flange that screws into the opposite end. Is this designed to tighten up on the hub and axle to make them secure as a unit and then this unit gets clamped into the fork. In my application it would clamp on one side only but could have twice the clamping surface.

The Marzocchi hub might be a good hub for me but I am open to suggestions, could be a heavy hub since weight is not an issue. I am thinking about a Sun Ringle double wide rim and a 3 inch tire. On my vehicle there will be about 40 percent of the weight distributed on the front 2 wheels and 60 percent on the rear go kart wheel, I am 145lbs.

I have not fond many diagrams or explanations on the i

Hey,

Honestly I have no idea about suggestions for you on this.
