Hello, I am looking at getting my first set of tools and I am really interested in the Grivel X Monster, one because of the price and other because of the great reviews. My one question is that I read on one review that the pick is not replace able and that you have to replace the whole tool... is that the case? Thanks for your help!

Hey,
They are actually replaceable, so your in luck. They probably aren't the best tool to start out with, but if cost is a major factor they will do the job.
A more traditional tool such as the Black Diamond Viper is a better first tool.

 | Thanks a lot, i would love the BD Viper but cost is one of the major factor! I wish I could find a cheap set. What is the major reason that you wouldn't recomend it as a starting tool?

 | Hey,
They are very versatile, letting you change between adze and hammer, different types of picks available. Its like if you started riding a bike, your going to start with a normal all around bike and later on you may get a specialized bike.
But if cost is a limiting factor get the X-Monster and start pulling.

 | Thanks again, makes a lot of sence. Do you know anything about the CAMP Tiburon ice tool? I guess I have just been looking for good deals on a good starting tool. I have the other equipment but I have to rent or borrow tools to climb which doesn't allow me to climb as often as I would like. So I am open for any sugestions for tools and places to look for good deal. Thanks again
