I have used old school 12 point strap on crampons for many years w no issues

Im thinking of getting the BD Sabretooth for my son. His boots like mine have the special step built into the heal to accept this new scheme. How does it work. What is the advantage. How dows one get into/out of them?

The Sabretooth Pro requires a toe and heel welt. You are probably looking for the Sabretooth Clip. The 14 point design gives a bit more rocker for walking on firm snow and ice. The step in back gives a firmer attachment for more sure footing. For ice climbing or technical mountaineering, most folks go to a full step in (like the pro model).
