Hi Iam looking at a pair of these SL12pb in 160 for my son, he skied on the ST12 last year at Aspen in 150 length but has grown 9cm = nearly 4inchs since but the 160s will still be in the middle of his forehead , where the 150s were last year, he only weighs 110lb { 22lb more than last year }, He loved the st12s and skiied his best ever , my concern is are these a lot stiffer and going to be to much ski for him by comparrison ?. thanks in advance for your comments.

I do not think he will have much of a problem. These are not near the stiffness of the SL12, did you Son ski the St 12pb or St12?

Hey Phil,

I don't think you can tell, but I would get the non-pb if they will be used as a race ski. If they are for skiing all over the mountain get the pb.

Thanks Matt unfortunatly I missed them , someone out bid me last second .Damn it .
I am also thinking K2 recons for him now , what do you think of them by comparison.
While I am picking your brains, I ski on Atomic Metron 10s in 170 long , I am 5'7 and 161 lb I love them, but am wondering if I should be looking for a newer ski if there is something heaps better ?
Cheers.

Just curious about you son's skiing style, where does he normally ski. Because the recon is a drastically different ski than the atomic race skis you mentioned before. let me know a bit more about the terrain etc he skis on and I will give you some suggestions.

We skied Aspen last year and going again shortly for 2 weeks .
He loves skiing fast groomed runs, fast , He likes to get over on his edges . Aspen and Highlands Blue and black groomed runs, he is fine with .Being a kid he still likes to go between the trees on the little tracks and find little jumps He really did not like it when we had some deep powder to deal with, being from Australia we are not used to it and I think the st 12s he was on were probably not very helpful either .
I just read him what I had written and he said ultimately groomed with 2 to 3 cm of fresh snow over it ,[ in a perfect world ].
Also Matt have just been reading up on the Volkl AC3 it gets good reviews , Whats your thoughts
Cheers.

Hello Phil,

I would say both of those are very comparable skis. Upper intermediate all mountain skis. Based on what he likes to ski they should be a good fit. Personally I would get the Volkl, but either is a good choice and if you can get a better deal on one go for it.
