Cred is a level of "respect" on Spadout that is assigned to every user.
Well kinda like the google dance (when google changes their algorithm causing significant changes in search engine placements causing webmasters to rejoice or cry overnight), today is our first Spadout dance. Now obtaining over 10,000 gear reviews we had everything from top quality reviews to "great!" to every choice of 4 letter words on the market.
As most of you probably guess everything on Spadout is automated (or we'd never sleep) so we've completed a major adjustment in the algorithm that guesses the value of the author's reviews in turn pushing the weak reviews to the bottom and giving summary placement to the top reviews.
The system also has lots of built in anti-spam and anti-alias in place to maximize the value of the reviews and decrease the effect of review spamming (yes believe it or not we've caught manufactures and retailers bumping the heck out of their products / services).

That was allot of words...
Basically, If you write good reviews now, you'll get more credit for them than you did before. If you write bad reviews bad things will happen...
*cough* tar and feather *cough*
