This discussion is regarding: Hydration Bladder Test
Great test guys. I love the method you designed to test ease of washing. Really, that's the big issue for me - washability. And, the related issue of taste.

I really hate when I haul my reserve water up a dry mountain all day and sip at the summit only to discover that it taste like a condom. The last bladder I had was a camel back which did overtighten and I recently gave it to Goodwill b/c it tasted so bad even after washing. I find that if water doesnt taste good, then I tend not to drink it. So, I end up dehydrated even if Ive bothered to lug it around. So, aside from basic ability not to leak, a bladders ability to preserve the good taste of water is the most important feature to me. I had good luck with Platypus on taste. However, on two of them they started leaking in my pack after a year or so. Hence, the failed switch to camels. Thoughts?

Thanks for the feedback keokex,
Very interesting. Where was the leak? At the tip or else where? Was it the Big Zip model?

That's one of the problems about in-house tests is that it is extremely difficult to replicate long term use. I'd like to bring this to Platypus's attention though.

I dont recall what the model was called but it had a center set spout and the leak formed in the fitting where the valve attaches to the sack

I will agree the Camelbak's cap is a real pain it actually seems to tighten as the fluid level drops I have had to get the Channel lock pliers out to unscrew.

When you buy a Camelbak, at least the mountain bike ones, it does come with what they call Ergo Hydrolock which is great when transporting. I have gotten to a ride destination only to find I put the bag on the bite valve, without the on/off switch, and found 100oz of water on the floor and a empty bag. Guess they assume if your buying a bladder you already have the valve and now a spare bite valve.

For cleaning the bladder I use 2 Efferdent tablets let it sit for a few hours, light scrub with dish cloth, drain and flush with hot water. If you flush it 1-2 times you will get a mild mint flavor if you dont like that in the water flush at least 4 times.
