 | What is the best all mountain ski for women? |
altmanator
 | There are many great women's all mountain skis on the market but in order to recommend the best skis for you, it would help to know a little more information.
What resorts do you primarily ski at?
How would you rate your ability?
What is your height and weight?
My recommendations will be much more helpful for you if you can answer these questions and I can help get you into the best ski for your needs.
Thanks! |

That's really good information, especially knowing that you are going to be skiing primarily out West.
The skis I would recommend for you are likely going to be wider than skis you may have been considering. You might gasp at the width of them but I am confident that you will absolutely love them. In my experience sizing folks up they tend to gravitate towards skinny skis and feel real uneasy about going with a fatter ski. I have NEVER had anyone who I got into a fat ski come back to me and say they wish they had gone with something skinnier. On the other hand I know so many people who went with a skinny ski come back the next year or even halfway through the season and purchase a wider ski.
A wider ski such as one that is 95mm underfoot will still perform perfectly fine on the groomers but where you will see the most difference is when you get off-piste into some powder or variable conditions. A wider platform makes the ski far more stable and gives it much more float so that you are skiing on the snow instead of skipping off the hard snow below. I also find a wider platform is far easier on my knees as it disperses impact and bumps throughout a larger surface area.
Ok, so here are a few skis I would recommend. I'm a guy and have not personally skied any of these but am basing this off what the women in my ski life, love.
The Volkl Aura will be right up your alley. It is considered a "mid-fat" ski at 94mm underfoot so it will perform great on and off the groomed runs. Volkl makes this with a wood core as opposed to foam cores which are often found in women specific skis. This means these skis will have a lot of life left in them even after a few seasons and I suspect you will still enjoy them for that long as well.
