I contacted Matt (who has extensive Mountaineering / Ice Climbing experience) he'll be getting back to you later today. I could give some recommendations but honestly he's the guy to talk to about cold weather gear so I'll just wait until he gets on

Hey,

The jackets you are looking at are all very high end, and I'm guessing if you are looking at them you have done quite a bit of your homework already.

Between the jackets the down quality is about equal, all jackets have reinforced shoulders and arms, but the amount of down is not equal.

The Volant fill weight is about 255 grams, the Sirus has 350 grams, and it was unlisted for the Hispar. The more down in the jacket the warmer you will be.

Looking at the pictures, the Sirius has the most insulation and should be the warmest. I have emailed, about the Hispar regarding the amount of down used. With its total weight being 700 grams I'm thinking it will not be as warm as the Sirus.

The hispar does have a zipper flap with velcro, which is nice if you have to unzip your jacket and a breeze picks up, you can quickly shut the jacket.

I will post the reply back about the amount of down for the Hispar.

If you are looking for warmth, I would suggest at this point the Sirus.

Hope this helps,
Matt

Hey,

I received the reply about the fill weight from Peter Hutchinson, and they do not give out fill weight.

Well that's one jacket that I wouldn't buy if I was the original poster.

How about between the Marmot Greenland and the Valandre Sirius jackets?
For size small it looks like the down fill difference is 30g, the complete weight of the Marmot is a bit over 100g lighter and can be found for about 200Euro cheaper.

Marmot:

Valandre:

Do you have any opinion about the value of those 30g of down, or the overall quality of the jacket which would make the Valandre a better deal?

Thanks,
Ricki
