Spadout is obsessed with everything gear-related - that's a bit obvious, right? Well, what might not be obvious are some of the awesome features on our site. Here's a cheat sheet of some issues you might encounter on the site, and the features that will help you out:
Issue #1: You really want that 60-meter bi-color climbing rope on your wishlist, but you don't have the time to check back every day to see if the price comes down.
Feature: Notify Me When the Price Drops. Click this link on a product page and a Price Watcher box will appear where you can specify sizes and the price you are willing to pay for that product. When Spadout finds the desired price, we'll email you with all the details.
Located: On every product page underneath the price list.

Issue #2: You were surfing around on Spadout and found some sweet swag, but right as you went to hit the 'Buy Now' button, your boss walked by and you quickly had to close your browser. Later that week, you get back on, but you can't remember where that awesome product is anymore! How will you ever find it again?
Feature: Extended History. When you're on a category page or product page, a box with the product images of your six most recent looked-at pages is at the top right (under the search bar). In the middle of that box there is a small red arrow pointing down. Click on the red arrow and your extended history of the last 100 looked-at products will appear.
Located: On category pages and product pages.

Issue #3: You're in the shoes category and see the pair of hiking shoes you've coveted for the whole summer for more than half off! You click on the shoes only to find out that low price is for a pair of size 3 shoes. Ugh.
Feature: Specify Sizes. On a product page, click on the dropdown menu next to 'Size:' and choose from the listed sizes. Then choose on the next dropdown menu whether you want to show similar sizes or just an exact match. Press 'Go'. Voila! On product pages, category pages and sales pages, it will now only show prices for the sizes you want. (Note: Any type of product with variable sizes will have this feature - that means shoes, clothing, bicycle gear ranges, climbing rope lengths, etc.)
Located: On applicable product pages above the price list.

Issue #4: Your friends are planning a week-long backpacking trip and have invited you to come with them, but you've only been on day hikes and don't have near the size backpack they have. All your friends tell you to get a lightweight pack in the 4,000-6,000 cubic inches range ... oookay, where do you start?
Feature: Gear Finders. Let us help you with our Gear Finders (like the Backpack Finder), which you can find on most category pages. Instead of looking at dozens of packs and trying to compare all that information, just specify the range you're looking for in each variable (meaning weight, volume, torso size, etc.) and we narrow down your search. (Note: Any type of product with multiple variables that you use to compare products has this feature - that means bicycle gear, backpacks, climbing gear, snow gear, etc.)
Located: At the top of category pages, right under the bread-crumb trail.

 | Awesome! For that Extended History button, designer must be left hanging upside down for undefined amount of time...

That's standard procedure around here... more blood to the brain is good for creativity.
