Road Brake Summary
Modern road brakes are all a caliper style rim break. They are light and very strong. There are three main different types of road brakes currently being used on road bikes:

Single pivot side-pull caliper
Center-pull caliper brakes
Dual-pivot caliper brakes

While the dual-pivot caliper design is by far the most common, there are advantages and disadvantages to each design.
