Rock Climbing Gear
To start top roping in a gym you will need:

• 1 Belay Device ($15-25)
  
• 1 Chalk ($1-4)
  
• 1 Chalk Bag ($12-20)
  
• 1 Harness ($40-80)
  
• 1 Locking Pear-Shaped Carabiner ($12-18)
  
• 1 Pair of Rock Climbing Shoes ($70-130)

If you plan on top roping outdoors you need all of the above and:

• 1 Helmet ($55-80)
  
• 2 Locking Carabiners ($6-10 each)
  
• 2 Slings ($3-5 each)
  
• 1 Climbing Rope ($110-200)

This is the minimum amount of gear. More gear may be required to build anchors.
